How to Calculate an Ape's Age

While they share many similarities with us, apes do reach maturity faster than humans do. Here is a generally accepted way to estimate an ape's age in human terms:
- Infancy and Adolescence: In their early years (from birth to roughly age 12), apes mature about 1.5 times faster than humans. So, a 12-year-old ape is biologically equivalent to an 18-year-old human adult.
- Adulthood: Once they reach full maturity, their aging process remains steady. Generally, scientists estimate that every year of an adult ape's life is roughly equal to 2 human years.
